Are you where you want to be? Most people know what they want. They just don’t have big enough reasons why they want it. Knowing why you want something, why you really want something is one of the biggest keys to your success in everything.
What motivates you? It’s an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of the may be the hardest part.
Visualize this, pray for this, ask for this, meditate on this, or whatever it is you do. Put feeling into it, write the reasons down, put it somewhere you will see it every day. Look at it every day. Get inspired by it. Walt Disney used to say, “If you can imagine it, you can engineer it.”
Identify something you would like to accomplish. Determine if there is a passion that is crying out to be pursued. Write it out and do something every day to help manifest your vision. In addition, practice verbalizing your vision. See your words. Feel the energy of your voice. Convey the integrity of your intention. Practice daily as often as you choose.
In one of his books, Zig Ziglar says, “One definition of insanity is believing that you can keep doing what you usually do and get different results.”
Think about it, each time you take a step you’ll be closer towards it. Trying to achieve something without setting a goal is like walking blindly through the dessert in search of treasure, but without having a map or any idea what you are really looking for. Goal setting is a standard technique used by professional athletes, successful business people and high achievers in all fields. It gives you long term vision and provides you with short term motivation. While you should strive for success, you should start your goals at a point you know you can achieve and gradually build up to bigger and more difficult short term goals. The great benefit to short term goals is they give you a feeling of achieving something with each successful goal.
Break your long term goals into short term goals and each day and night write a goal for the next day. If you focus on small steps you will eventually accomplish your goal. For each milestone make sure you have a reward. Take some time for your self. You can soak in the tub or take a nap or buy a new outfit, anything that will make you feel good about your accomplishments. The process of achieving goals and seeing this achievement gives you confidence that you will be able to achieve higher and more difficult goals later on.
Goals aid in deriving a reason to succeed; they give you something to strive for; the reason to keep on pushing. Goals give you a reason to want to continue on, because you know the things you have worked so hard to achieve are just around the corner.
If you feel a deep passion for something and you create focus, commitment and perseverance, anything can be accomplished and your so called “impossible” dream can become very real indeed.
Life is too precious to waste living it without a plan or goal.
